At the intersections of Interstates 75, 24 and 59, Chattanooga boasts myriad claims to fame. The Glenn Miller Orchestra won the music industry's first gold record for a song about Chattanooga -- The Chattanooga Choo Choo. In 1926, miniature golf was invented in 1926 on Lookout Mountain by Garnet Carter, founder of nearby Rock City Gardens. In 1939, Chattanooga's Davenport Mills was the first commercial maker of nylon hose. Chattanooga's Walnut Street Bridge is the world's longest pedestrian span, and Chattanooga has the world's steepest passenger railway line -- the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. Chattanooga's Tennessee Aquarium is the world's largest freshwater aquarium, and Chattanooga's Hunter Museum of Art showcases the South's largest collection of American art. The world's first franchised Coca-Cola bottling plant was built in Chattanooga by a pair of area attorneys scooping up bottling rights for $1 each, and Chattanooga has the nation's first and largest military park -- Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Chattanooga's Hamilton Place is Tennessee's largest mall, and the Lookout Mountain Flight Park and Training School graduates more pilots annually than any other flight school in the world. And as if all this variety weren't enough, more than 300 kinds of trees and 900 types of wildflowers grow in the Chattanooga area, more than anywhere on earth, except central China. Lodging accommodations range from family owned motels and inns to hotels with intrigue such as the Chattanooga Choo Choo / Holiday Inn, where the lobby, a former railroad terminal, contains the world's largest freestanding brick dome, with an interior height stretching 85 feet.

Area Facts: The Chattanooga Choo Choo, the first wood-burning locomotive to carry passengers between Cincinnati and Chattanooga, immortalized by Glenn Miller's orchestra and Tex Beneke's Modernaires in the 1940s, is still sitting on Track 29 at Terminal Station.
